Muslim-Christian Dialog

Muslims have expressed their heartfelt condolences for the Pope’s death on April 2, 2005. Here are what a few Muslim organizations had to say about him.

Amongst the 25 Prophets mentioned by God in the Quran, one name is Prophet John (peace be upon him). In Arabic, his name is Yahya. He is also a Prophet who figures prominently in Christianity, where he is known as John the Baptist.

Different churches are speaking out for peace. Among those churches is the Episcopalian church. Below is an interview with the leader of the Episcopalian Church in the United States, Bishop Frank Griswold.

It was only 10 years after the Vietnam war began that churches finally spoke out against it. But today, churches and Christian groups are no longer silent. They have proven that the business of peace and speaking out for justice is no longer the domain of the left.

Reverend Robert Thompson, president of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions, has been fasting in Ramadan. Again. He started the practice last year, after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Now is the time for not just condemnation, but also comfort and reassurance in the face of this tragedy. We must not forget the tremendous support American Christians expressed for Muslims in the wake of September 11 and the subsequent harassment of Muslims. It is now our turn to reach out.
