The "ISS Sucks" billboard campaign, envisioned by a group of young Muslim fathers on a WhatsAp group in Chicago and endorsed and supported by Sound Vision, has created a good buzz in the Chicagoland area.

This is about an amazing Muslim woman I hardly knew. She was born 63 years ago in Pakistan in the same neighborhood where Malala Yusufzai was born. Today, hundreds of people showed up for her funeral prayers on less than a day’s notice.

While sisters are a full part of the community, many mosques are run as though Islam is just for men. This is evident by looking at women's spaces, their uncomfortable size and design, and the absence of women from the Board of Directors.

About 200 people attended the rally, of all religious, cultural and racial backgrounds Those who cared to show up need to be thanked for their concern for humanity. In all, about only 20 Muslims attended.

Neighborhood windows rattled when the taxi cab exploded with Shahpara Sayeed in it, allegedly ignited by her angry husband on August 24, 2000.  While the media forgot about the incident, domestic violence continues.

Muslims in America today remain the last to be hired and the first to be fired. We need to remember them in our prayers. We need to organize ourselves so that America moves forward instead of moving backwards in the civil rights of those subject to dehumanization in our society.
