“O you who believe, seek help through patience and prayer. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.”
(Quran 2:153):
Allah commands in the Quran: “O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even if it be against yourselves, your parents, or your kin.”
(Quran 4:135)
And do not kill yourselves or one another. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.”
(Quran 4:29)
Memorials, tears and more will be how many people in America and around the world will be commemorating the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
It is a time of sadness, but also one of hope. Prayer is a wonderful way to heal hearts and look towards the future. In Arabic, the term Dua refers to supplication to God. Dua is a beautiful method of connecting with the Creator, Who is Most Merciful and Most Compassionate.
Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has said that Dua is the essence of worship (Tirmidhi). It is our direct line of communication to Allah. It can be done anytime, in any condition, anywhere.
Dua is not only for times of distress, but it is also for times of thankfulness, a way of showing that we love Allah and rely on Him more than anything, including our own efforts, to succeed in this life and the Next. This is why it is critical that we pass on the importance and beauty of Dua to the next generation of Musli
It is with the need for prayer on this occasion in mind that we suggest the following Duas for all of humanity, which has suffered in some way or another through this attack.
- If My slaves ask you about Me, I am near. I answer the call of the caller when he calls on Me. They should therefore respond to Me and believe in Me so that hopefully they will be rightly guided. (Quran 2:186
- In the name of Allah. I depend on Allah. There is no ability or power except by the leave of Allah. (Bismillahi tawakkaltu alal-lah. La Haola Wala Qowwata illa Billah).
- Oh Lord of the universe, give comfort to the relatives and loved ones of the victims.
- The Unseen of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah and the whole affair will be returned to Him. So worship Him and put your trust in Him. Your Lord is not unaware of what you do (Quran: 11:123).
- Allah is enough for me. There is no god but Him. I have put my trust in Him. He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne (Quran 9:129).
- The Best of Guardians is Allah. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful (Quran 12:64).
- In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing in earth or in heavens can hurt and He is the Hearer, the Knower. (say three times after morning and evening prayers) (Bismillahil lazi la yadorro ma'a ismihi shaion fil ardi wala fis samai wa howas Sami ul Aleem.
- Lord of the Universe! Save us all from words which hurt and bless us with hearts that touch
- God, grant us the wisdom to learn from the Guidance that You blessed upon all Your Prophets.
- Please God, comfort and console those who now walk in sorrow
- Our Lord, please give us compassion and mutual understanding so that we may live in peace and with justice
- Please help us stop those who oppress, whether be of our nation, race or tribe or not
- Give us the strength to work for the good of all humanity and against what is harmful to all of us
- Let our children learn from our errors and work to establish a safer, more peaceful and just world for all.
- Guide our leaders to make wise and fair decisions
- Protect us from the kind of hate and intolerance symbolized by the September 11 tragedy
- Make us all among those who struggle for what is just, good and beautiful.
- Have mercy on all who have suffered from the tragedy of September 11 and its aftermath: Americans, Afghans, Iraqis, and many, many others.
- I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him (Bukhari, Muslim. It is recommended that this Dua be said 100 times during the day).
- Oh God! Have mercy on humanity and cure us of the hate and evil that are destroying us and dividing us through wars, terrorism, and other acts of violence and intolerance
