Sr. Aneesah Nadir is Director of Social Services for the Arizona Muslim Family Health and Social Services in Tempe.  Sound Vision interviewed her about the social issues and problems confronting Muslims in North America, as well as her own background in this field.

As Muslims we are taught from the instructions in the Quran and the life of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, not to judge one another based on surface things, for the only thing that distinguishes us is piety.

When one reads about the time when Islam was spreading in Mecca and Madinah,one finds that the first followers were the poor, the weak, the orphaned and the disabled. This should not be taken to mean that Islam was laid upon a poor foundation. Instead, it meant that it offered those who didn't have anything, something more to look forward to with Allah.
