Most Muslim youth today are growing up at a time of unprecedented awareness around green issues in the United States. Protecting the planet has become part of school curriculums, youth group programs, even much of the media they consume.

Pophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The world is green and beautiful and God has appointed you as His stewards over it. He sees how you acquit yourselves..." (Muslim).

How Much is Too Much? “Get out of the shower!” your little brother shouts as he bangs on the washroom door. “You’ve been in there for twenty minutes!”  The 20 minutes you spend in the shower, use up 400 liters of water. 

There is a clear consensus among scientists that human activity is changing the earth's climate and it is the most pressing problem facing humankind today. Our lifestyle is threatening life.

Waste and a lifestyle characterized by it, is behind many of the environmental problems we face today. Waste is something Allah hates. He says in the Quran: "Lo! the squanderers were ever brothers of the devils and the devil was ever an ingrate to his Lord."
