As a child leaves infancy and approaches toddlerhood, one of the tasks parents face is introducing the child to the peer group. How do parents help their child become a socially competent?
 

One ritual that has become synonymous with coming of age has been the senior prom, which is an opportunity for youth to celebrate the entrance into the world of adulthood with a splash of color and formality. However, there is far more behind the social event than may be initially noticed.

Young people are very vulnerable to the influences of society, their friends, TV, adults and those that appear to be fashionable in the music and fashion industries. They may be teased for being too "chicken" to try this type of intoxicant.

Society's problems are not the problems of "those people out there". They are our problems, and if we ignore them they will come creeping up to us at one point. As Muslim parents we need to do something about these challenges.
