Muharram is a significant and important month. Muharram itself is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is often met with passing interest by the Muslim community as simply a day to  reflect and change the date on the calendar.

It is all well and good to acknowledge that single parents have it tough. But in order to lighten their load and support the health and well-being of adults and children in single parent families, our Muslim community needs to move forward with a two-step approach.

The issue of single parenting is pre-destined by fate and one that an individual may not necessarily have complete control over.
