He is the only player in the NBA to refuse to sign a multi-million dollar contract with Nike because the shoes were too expensive. Hakeem wanted a cheaper shoe so that poor children could also afford them. Hakeem is a basketball player with a strong moral character. During the month of Ramadan, he played some games during the daytime. He did not take an excuse from the games because he was fasting, but he played and played hard. Hakeem Olajuwon was invited to ICNA convention in 1994, the year when he won the title of MVP, and his team won the NBA championship.
