American Muslims' Civic Responsibility

Terminology: Halal & Haram Food

  • If a person accepts the Creator's guidance for right and wrong, that individual is a Muslim.
  • Dietary guidance has been a part of the revelation sent by God through all His Prophets, peace be upon them.
  • The last of these Prophets, Muhammad—peace be upon him—received revelations which clarified God’s instructions regarding one’s dietary restrictions.
  • These revelations became Muslims’ guidelines of Halal and Haram food.
  • Muslims believe it is sinful to violate these rules given to them by their Creator.
  • There are certain common elements between Halal, Kosher and Vegetarian foods; but all Kosher food is not Halal, nor are all vegetarian dishes Halal. Therefore, Halal must be understood as a unique set of dietary guidance, followed by the 1.3 billion Muslims of the world.

Surah Ayah
Something to Ask...
I seek the forgiveness of Allah, there is no true god except Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I turn to Him in repentance.
