|089.001. By the break of Day
||089.001. By the Dawn
|089.002. By the Nights twice five;
||089.002. And ten nights,
|089.003. By the even and odd (contrasted);
||089.003. And the Even and the Odd,
|089.004. And by the Night when it passeth away;-
||089.004. And the night when it departeth,
|089.005. Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?
||089.005. There surely is an oath for thinking man.
|089.006. Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),-
||089.006. Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,
|089.007. Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars,
||089.007. With many-columned Iram,
|089.008. The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?
||089.008. The like of which was not created in the lands;
|089.009. And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?-
||089.009. And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;
|089.010. And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes?
||089.010. And with Pharaoh, firm of might,
