Terminology: Halal & Haram Food
- If a person accepts the Creator's guidance for right and wrong, that individual
is a Muslim.
- Dietary guidance has been a part of the revelation sent by God through
all His Prophets, peace be upon them.
- The last of these Prophets, Muhammad—peace be upon him—received
revelations which clarified God’s instructions regarding one’s
dietary restrictions.
- These revelations became Muslims’ guidelines of Halal and Haram food.
- Muslims believe it is sinful to violate these rules given to them by their
Creator.
- There are certain common elements between Halal, Kosher and Vegetarian
foods; but all Kosher food is not Halal, nor are all vegetarian dishes Halal.
Therefore, Halal must be understood as a unique set of dietary guidance, followed
by the 1.3 billion Muslims of the world.
