A sample press release for Eid
Eid prayers are a great opportunity to talk about Islam and get media coverage
for it. One way of doing this is by putting together and sending out a press
release to media outlets in your town or city. Here is a sample you can easily
put together to invite the media to Eid prayers arranged by your local mosque.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FEBRUARY 16, 2002
OVER 300,000 CHICAGO MUSLIMS CELEBRATE NEXT WEEK
WHO: Muslims in Chicago, Illinois and the US
WHAT: Will be celebrating the Islamic holiday of Eid-ul-Adha with over
1 billion Muslims worldwide. (There are about 6 million Muslims in the US including
converts from the African-American, Latin-American and Caucasian-American communities.
Many of these converts are women).
HOW: With congregational prayers in halls and stadiums across the city
and states, social gatherings and food and meat distribution to the needy.
WHEN: Saturday February 23, 2002 at 9:00 a.m.

WHY: Eid ul-Adha is how Muslims commemorate Prophet Abraham's willingness
to sacrifice his son Ishmael at God's command.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND:
-While Eid prayer will be held on February 23, festivities will take place between
February 22 and February 25. As well, please note that every year, Eid-ul-Adha
coincides with Hajj, a pilgrimage Muslims must make to Mecca, in Saudi Arabia
which is a religious obligation. This year, the peak day for Hajj will be February
22 (which is the ninth day of the Islamic month in which Hajj is performed,
known in Arabic as Zul Hijjah).
-Since this is a prayer service, media professionals who will be attending,
both men and women, are asked to dress modestly (i.e. no short shorts or skirts,
tank tops, etc.). Women reporters, photographers and/or camera women may be
asked to cover their hair with a scarf while at the prayer service.
