Comment:One thing you may have overlooked - while conventional wisdom suggests that children should do homework first and then watch TV, it should be noted that usually the TV prior to prime time is much less adult-oriented and objectionable. For this reason, it can often be beneficial to allow them to watch TV then, and then doing their homework before prime time starts, so they skip all those awful prime time programs.

Comment:I got rid of my TV five years ago and hardly ever miss it. I have no children and as a single adult age 53 have much else to do, so taking such a step is easier in my situation, but I highly recommend taking the "plunge". Going TV-free develops greater intelligence, peace of mind, communication skills and good rest.

Comment:Salam Alykom:
One thing that we did was to remove the tv from the main part of the house. We, my husband and I, have a television in our bedroom and we have put a very small tv with a VCR in another, seldom used room. The result being is the children don't want to be left out and hardly ever go in there to watch it. When they do it is usually to watch videos with their friends. The article was great in that it refreshed my memory about some common sense things that we all sometimes get lazy with. Jazak Allah!
