This article did a good job in highlighting ways we can improve our communities and ourselves by improving our masjids. I was initially offended by the title, as I feel another one could have been chosen. Also if muslims are the "new n****'s" as so quoted...then what are black muslims who have been dealing with this treatment all our lives??? Also it's difficult to have unity in your masjid when some muslims feel you are lower than they are because you're black and have said racial comments about the black community, even though as muslims we're in this jihad together. I really liked the idea of masjid's putting money to the side for dawa efforts. I think that's a great idea. The challenge there however is to try to increase donations as alot of people are scared to donate if they can be tied to the money because of the new "anti-terrorism laws" that have been put in place. Having a nice masjid and inviting others does help as our masjid has done this alot in the past, and even if they don't become muslim, they at least get to know us and not believe the lies the media tells them everyday.

Comment:Assalaamu Alaikum and Jazaakallah Khair! It is important that such articles are published on different aspects of Muslim community life and circulated among the masses..and should not remain limited to Sound Vision subscribers only. I hope you keep the good work going inshaAllah.

Comment:Thanks for the wonderful article;a very good one.
OK, NOW, walk in my shoes (in a manner of
speaking), please. I took Shahada 4 years ago.
"OK, good for you!" maybe you say. Picture this:
I am a Native American Muslim. Descrimination,
I have been faced with for my entire life. But,
these days this combo is can be very unusual
( even my own relations). Please, brothers and
sisters remember us in your prayers too...We have
been here all along, even before our
brothers and sisters from Afirica,etc.
AND, yes, there are a few of us that have
embraced Islam with open heart and arms.
Thanks for listening. Wowashtelaka (LOVE)
to ALL! May Allah bless us all.

Comment:your article may be enlightening for some muslims, but for those muslims (black) who have been here in the USA for centuries; who already experienced what arab muslims are experiencing today--this is nothing new for us. please make a sincere effort to dialogue with ALL muslims on this matter and when the smoke is clear, remember this as a lesson.

Comment:Jazakallahikhair for a very inspiring article. Alhamdulillah we are so blessed that we can go to the Masajid in our neighborhood. We take so much for granted. InshaAllah, I will make copies of your article and distribute those who attend the Masajid and request to pass the word.

Comment:Assalaamu 'alaykum. Al-hamdulillah this article highlighted many problems to be overcome. One problem yet to be addressed is the non-profit corporate structure our mosques and masjids are assuming in order to be tax-exempt. The 501(c)3 is an instrument of social engineering. The gov't knows that the structure creates political behavior, which is antithetical to Islaam and siyaa sah. I have yet to encounter a mosque or masjid on either side of the Atlantic that is not experiencing problems with unqualified board members dictating to amirs and imaams. Our sociologists need to address structuralism and the behaviors it produces. The corporate mosque is a model of organization that is not working for us in terms of unity, and the government probably wants it that way - hence the tax exemption. www.poclad.org has raised some interesting issues concerning the corporate model in general.
