FORGET ME NOT 2000: KIDS' DAY ON CAPITOL HILL

National Coalition for the Homeless

On May 5, from 1:00-2:00 pm EDT, a small panel of students will share their experiences of being homeless or of helping homeless people. A panel of legislators will ask the students questions, share their views on the best ways to address homelessness, and answer questions from students in the audience and students calling the 1-800 number. The event will be moderated by Andrea Roane, news anchor for Washington, DC's News Channel 9, WUSA-TV.

The goal of this event is to increase awareness about homelessness among schools and communities, as well as to promote students' involvement in community service and civic activities.

The event will be broadcast via satellite nationwide, with a 1-800 number for students to call in with questions. To determine if "Kids Day on Capitol Hill" will be broadcast on your local educational access channel, or some other educational network, contact the individual or organization responsible for programming that network.

If your organization does not have direct access to educational television programming, call the state department of education, local colleges or universities, or the public and private K-12 school systems in your area. Make this call ASAP because these arrangements take time.

You should ask to speak to the media coordinator and ask the following questions:

1) Do you have access or know how I can get access to educational television programming?

a. If yes, do you broadcast MCET educational programming?

b. If yes, how or where can I view the programs?

c. If no, would you be willing to "pull in" a very special program called

"Kids Day on Capitol Hill" and redistribute it over your channel or tape

the program for me? The satellite information for Kids' Day is: SBS6 Transponder 3

2) If you are successful in finding a tvro downlink location that will assist you by broadcasting or taping the program, you should ask them to go to MCET's web site at: www.mcet.edu and link to the "Kids Day on Capitol Hill" pages. The pages will have instructions on how to "pull in" MCET programming. If the downlink contact does not have Internet access you should ask them to call MCET's HELP DESK at 1.800.556.4376 for assistance.

3) If you are unsuccessful in finding a tvro downlink location and would like to receive a copy of the broadcast, please go to the MCET "Kids' Day on Capitol Hill" web page (http://www.mcet.edu/kidsday/), or call MCET's Help Desk to order a tape.

Additionally, the webcast can be viewed on the Internet at http://www.mcet.edu.
